"There are years that ask questions and years that answer." Write a speculative response on what the upocoming year will hold for Janie. Will this eyar be the year that asks questions or one that answers them? Will this be the year that does both? Respond to at least three peers.
The upcoming year for Janie will both have questions and answer them as well. In Chapter 3 she ask herself the question how can she love someone, Logan Killicks in particular. This question troubles her so much that she goes to Nanny for advice. She then decides that she is incapable of loving him and meets Joe Starks. This, I believe is the answer to the question she had previously been asking herself. She then marries him and is obviously loves him, because she was willing to leave her husband, Logan Killicks. Logan has sixty acres of land and does the majority of the work around the barn or house. So, she did have it good she was just getting a taste of a harder life when she decided to abandon Logan for Joe.

Listen To Your Heart..
Most people have to live according to their own heart to be happy. Chances are if you live out someone else's dreams you are not making yourself happy. You are not fulfilling your own dreams, therefore you are not making yourself happy. You should listen to your heart, at least if you do you are almost guaranteed happiness.
Following other peoples' dreams and orders are most likely only going to bring you sadness and grief. We have all seen it in the movies and TV shows. There is the one kid who is the first person in the family to go to college for a sport or something, and the dad is pushing them way to hard. Then the kid gets hurt or just stops playing the sport and the parent get angry. This is a perfect example of someone not following their heart and getting sadness out of it. The parent is disappointed in their kid for not fulfilling their dream and basically disown the kid.

Gatsby Questions
Who is the man that crashes the car in the ditch at Gatsby's party?
Nick says he has a "tender curiosity" for Jordan but later thinks he loves her, which is it?
What does Nick mean by "Dishonesty in a woman is a thing you never blame deeply?"
Does Nick's relationship with Jordan change his relationship with his girl back home?

Listen
It was the kind of voice that follows ears up and down,
as if each speech is an arrangement of notes that will never be played again.
Her face was sad and lovely with bright things in it,
bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth,
but there was an excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget:
a singing compulsion, a whispered "Listen," a promise that she had done gay, exciting things just
a while since and that there were gay, exciting things hovering in the next hour. (Fitzgerald 13)

Geeks With Friends?
In today's society having a college degree does make you more socially accepted. These educated and experienced people have many things in common, thus allowing them to become more accepted in society. College graduates can reminisce on the fun or boring times throughout their education. Reminiscing allows people to further socialize and create an abundance of new friends. People who have a college degree tend to have a better life than people who do not have one. The college graduates have a better chance at getting a job more people apply at rather than people who do not have a degree. Also the opportunities for the people with the degree are endless, having a degree opens up so many doors for that person. You have so many more choices versus a person without one. People tend to listen to other people they believe are as educated and experienced as themselves. They think of each other as equals on the same level and become accepted into whatever group they are socializing with. Also if you have a degree other humans tend not to look down on you as if you are inferior to them, but it still does happen. So, yes having a college degree does make you more socially accepted.

Are Looks Decieving?
Yes, looks can be decieving. Someone can look innocent, but that doesn't necessarily mean that person is, and vice versa. Someone can look mean or short tempered, but that does not mean they are. For example Damien looks like a complete nerd, but he's a slacker. As am I, I won't lie about it. You would probably expect that from me though. Sadly, I fit in that category, although I am trying to be better about not being lazy. Another good example is Brandon, he may look like an average joe, but the dude is smart and he doesn't slack.
People are too concerned with their apperance, because the majority of people are judgemental now days. If you don't like the same things they do, or participate in the same activities they do, chances are they probably will not like you. So, to compensate for this we try to dress like them and be like them, and those who do not attempt to do this are shunned and become a pariah. They are labeled as weird and the "cool kids" pick on them and ignore them. That's why all those shunned kids form their own groups, because they have atleast one thing in common.
To me, a significant other's looks do matter, but to an extent. I believe a girl that knows what she wants to do with her life is great, that is as attractive as looks if not better. You could be able to help her achieve her goals and maybe create new ones. Money does matter as well. Whenever I am out of college I do not want a girlfriend or wife or whatever that can't carry her burden of the relationship. I will try my best to support her to the best of my abilities, but i want her to contribute as well. To other people I do believe looks matter tremendously. Some guys settle for a cute girl that has no common sense, which puzzles me. Sure she's cute, but if she does not have any type of ambition, self-motivation, or goals then you need to fix that. I am sure what I said earlier about either member of the relationship carrying their burden is pretty standard, but I could be wrong.

Fight Assimilation
Assimilation is the merging of many groups into one large group. When one group of people assimilates with another, the minority becomes absorbed into the larger of the two. It is like the smaller group of people loses its identity in the process. A good example is smaller or younger kids. When younger kids want to assimilate into the "cool kids" they join sports or whatever is cool at the time.
The character who assimilates is Walter. He wants to become a part of the group of people who are going to buy the liquor store, but Mama does not want him to.
I believe the play shows this as a weakness. It is shown as a weakness because Walter is succumbing to the people who want to buy the liquor store. Instead of assimilating into that group of people he could go out and pursue a venture he thinks of by himself.
People assimilate by hanging out with the group of people they would like to become. A nerd would like to become a jock so he starts to hang out with him. Although, whether he becomes one is up to them because he cam try as hard as he wants to be like them, but they decide if they want to accept him or not.
Eric Liu is an Asian-American, and white by acclamation. White people call him white and his fellow Asians call him a "banana". This is because he has moved away from his Asian heritage and more towards the American life so he has acheived the status of assimilation into white people in America.

Personal Desires or Family?
Well i can't say which comes before the other, because to me they both go hand in hand. Without the support of my family i would not be able to achieve the goals i have set for myself. Like going to college so i am able to support my family when they get older, because they have cared for me all of my life. I would like to make my dreams a reality so I am able to do the things i want to be able to do. A lot of the things i do in my life i do with the help of my family, without them everything would be much more of a challenge. Not that it's a bad thing in some cases, but in other scenarios your family is a crucial part your challenge. The college i would like to attend is Texas A&M. Everyone in my family pushes me to go to this college. A good amount of my family members either got pregnant at a young age, or in the males' cases got a girl pregnant. I see the struggle they go through, and neither them nor myself want that kind of life for me. I believe they want me to succeed more than i do myself, but i am going to go to Texas A&M because i want to repay all the kindness they have shown me, but much more. When I do succeed in reaching my goals, i will have no problem whatsoever in providing my family with whatever they want, because i appreciate all the kind things they do for me. So, overall i guess family is more important than personal desire.

The American Dream
The American Dream. The American Dream to me is living life with no worries. Basically, having enough money to not have middle class problems. Well my idea of having no worries would have to be have some big baller money. You would have to be on that Bill Gates status, well not really professional sports money that would be sufficient. Then again this is from MY perspective. To an immigrant or someone that is living in a country where they are oppressed, the American Dream could be just immigrating to the United States. They might have the same level of ambition, if not higher than i do. You don't know unless you do a little research. That research could be interviewing someone who has a visa for our country, or someone who is here illegally, but working on getting a visa. That is my idea of the American Dream.
First blooooooooog
What's up y'all? My name is Josiah Flores, and i go to Southwest High School, obviously. I don't know what to write about because this is new to me, i have never blogged before in my life. I'm not bout that life, feel me? This website seems pretty cool though, so i guess i will make an effort to at least try it. Anyways, i am sixteen and have some siblings that annoy me constantly. My favorite subject is probably anatomy and physiology, because it's a fun class. If your not Ms.Perry and you're reading this, you should look into joining that class, you will have a lot of fun I promise.
I used to play football for our school, but got out because I still am scared that one day I am going to get injured to badly, and won't be able to play sports at all. No, that does not make me a chicken or coward, that makes me cautious. Anyways, that is all for today so later!
